Nominated for awards all over the globe, including Spain, India, the United States, France, and Japan, Alvaro Mendoza Productions has, to date, made sixty-two independent documentaries and over 1,000 video sequences focused on nature and, specifically, animal behavior. Their projects have involved animals on five continents, including insects.

Above is a fascinating sequence showing the emergence of a fully-developed mosquito, an animal we might be surprised to find beautiful. Mosquitos certainly are pests and disease carriers, but they are also gracefully designed organisms that have a place in our ecosystems. It is very tempting to wish for a world without them; scientists are, in fact, considering wiping out some of the strains which most harbor disease. This video gives me pause. What do you think?
