Ritual makes me think of being in the flow of the creative process—when I’m fully focused on the creative, often listening to music, making the work, making intuitive creative decisions along the way. My recent work often involves a lot of setting up the scaffolding for this—gathering and preparing the elements, color studies, and building up underlying layers. All of this is the ritual. The time of being in the flow is the cherry on top—it’s the best part of the process, but not the biggest part.
