This video from the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) takes us to St. Mary’s First Nation in New Brunswick. Ned Bear, who passed away last year, was a master woodworker and mask maker, and Justin Sappier has returned to that tradition as a means of reconnecting with his culture. It is very easy for modern people to forget where they come from and lose their connection with the land and themselves. Those who live the “slow life” are caretakers of the human spirit; they are not expendable and they deserve respect.
I can relate to the sense of peace that comes from creating, can you? What a marvelous thing to make available to future generations.
