“Identity” Featured Artist Carolyn Schlam

Synkroniciti is excited to welcome painter, sculptor and author Carolyn Schlam of New York with a compelling contemporary portrait in oil, I C U. “I C U is a recent work that has been pared down to essentials. Anything that would detract from that intense stare had to go. Carolyn encourages other artists to take this challenge.” The female visage has been playfully condensed into angles and curves, focusing on the face, which is rendered in color while the rest of the figure is pure black. Her blue eyes reflect the blue sky around her which is inhabited by three fluffy clouds. The surreal nature of the work is enhanced by the use of a rose color on the shaded side of her face and a whimsical bow at her hairline. Carolyn shows us how contemporary portraiture reveals the personality of the subject, in this case presenting a character that is focused and intense, but also quite playful and free-spirited.
