Synkroniciti is pleased to welcome poet Paula Rudnick with two memoir poems. “All The Little Soldiers” looks back on young love betrayed and the grandmother who taught her a bit of old-world folk magic to bring him back. She muses that perhaps the function of that ritual was actually something different. “Love on Toast” conjures an exacting father, one who likes his relationships devoid of messiness. We all know those who are unable to process emotion or loudness and enforce a ban on such things in their presence. This can leave marks and damage inside their children, family and close friends. Sometimes that damage endures for decades, even a lifetime. Paula is adept at transcribing relationships, at letting us see the vulnerability and power dynamics that ripple throughout our lives.

Read Paula’s perceptive poetry in the “Empowered” issue of our online magazine, available here. You can subscribe or order the issue, which debuted September 1, 2022.
