Synkroniciti is delighted to welcome back the Mad Artist, Derek Roper, with three digital artworks drawn from the cosmic mythos first explored and generously shared by H.P. Lovecraft. “Ritual of Summoning,” “Nephren-Ka” and “Dreams in the Witch House” give us windows into the creepy and ominous side of the human imagination. Derek has a way of using varying tints of shadow to paint a murky and mysterious image–the kind you find in dreams, where you aren’t completely sure what is there. He also uses distortion and image noise to create further ambiguity. Horror and fear are more effective when our imagination is engaged to fill out the image, our eyes peering ever deeper.
Experience these tenebrous images in Synkroniciti’s “Ritual” issue, Vol. 4, No. 1, available now. Subscribe or purchase the individual issue here.
The maestro of mad art, Derek Roper, has dedicated his creativity and ingenuity to the cosmic mythos. The Mad Artist delves into the abyss of horror to bring forth tentacled creatures dragging you into the deep reaches of the cosmos. Some of his favorite classic cosmic horror stories include “The Call of Cthulhu,” “The Shadow Over Innsmouth,” and “The King in Yellow.” Of course, there are many more! His passion for these stories and the mythos drives his creative processes (and himself a little mad).
We will be featuring Derek at our upcoming Soirée on April 23rd. Check it out, it’s free on Zoom.
