“Family” Featured Artist Ildiko Nova

Synkroniciti is pleased to welcome Ildiko Nova, a Hungarian visual artist who makes her home in Canada. “Family” features two of her digital paintings. “Scarf” shows a group of figures seated together, connected by a red and blue track draped over their shoulders, as well as a white cloudlike track in the air. The red and blue scarf shows how we can use our shared humanity and caring to comfort and support each other. The white track connotes both the connection of the breath and air between human beings and the cloudlike nature of of our words, which come from our mouths and pass quickly like contrails. While they may connect us, they are no match for action, as represented by the scarf. The second image is called “Remembering,” and shows a woman holding a photograph of a man and woman in the forest. It’s her grandparents who were forced to hide from the Nazis during the second World War. Their time in the woods made her life possible and imbues it with the richness of their story. Ildiko creates naive art, simple and yet rich in connotation and meaning. “I responded to the theme of “Family.” We all have some memories of this most immediate connection. Our experiences include the weird, awkward gatherings but also the encouragement and support. I celebrate the wider meaning of family, the supportive, close and wonderful friends.”
