“Wild” Featured Artist Cesar Ceballos

Synkroniciti is thrilled to welcome back Filipino-American visual artist Cesar Ceballos, who made his debut with us a year ago in our “Ritual” issue. “Wild” features three intriguing watercolor paintings. “Sentiments of Thoughts” is an abstract piece with figurative elements that uses the natural tendencies of watercolor to illustrate the geography of the human mind: colors and textures that coalesce into shapes. Immigration is the subject of the second work, “Tigers Landing,” which has been exhibited in St. Paul Minnesota as well as the Mayor’s Gallery in Las Vegas. A pair of tigers floats to earth, each on a separate hot air balloon, symbolizing the delicate process of South-East Asian immigrants fitting in with the racial and cultural currents in the Americas. It is a beautiful and detailed work delivered with whimsy and humor. Lastly, “Grow for Freedom” presents us with a tree growing in a rocky landscape, its roots breaking stone. It reminds me of ancient sites around the world where trees have reclaimed the landscape from humans. Wildness is always growing, always escaping the barriers we have made for it. Humans are part of that wildness, too, part of the universe that is eternally seeking, eternally curious.
