Trash Talking: Letters from Discarded Paper, Second Set

Cruelty is a consequence of ignorance. What happens to our world and our relationships when we regard them as disposable?

These images by photographer Michael Bogdanffy-Kriegh inspired me to write poetry that explores human relationships by proxy, using litter as a metaphor for people who are undervalued and degraded by others. This set focuses on paper goods that have performed intimate functions for humans, such as containing food or aiding personal hygiene. As before, each poem takes the form of a letter and supplies a voice to the item pictured. Emotions stirred up by these particular images are both cathartic and disturbing. Come take a walk on the dark side with us; you may find new perspectives.

You are also welcome to view the first set here.
