“Space” Featured Artist Gavin Kayner

Synkroniciti is excited to welcome writer Gavin Kayner from Tucson. “Space” features “Bobby’s Swing,” an enchanting poem that hearkens back to childhood–“”How high we soared/ Up into summer days/ Kicking the sky/ Till it turned black /And parents called /Us home to roost”–, filled with nostalgia for the time before we realized how difficult life could be, when a playground swing took us far from home and we were fearless and full of wonder and potential. We, like Gavin, are no longer innocent, “No longer believing/ With enough thrust/ I could conquer the heavens/ No longer much longer/ Anymore.” And yet, memory is sweet, and we are perhaps more able to appreciate that sweetness now than we were as children. Gavin’s poetry has a lilt that sings, a dramatic urgency which remains relatable and human.

Experience “Bobby’s Swing” in Synkroniciti’s November 30th issue, “Space,” Vol. 5, No. 4, available for purchase here: https://synkroniciti.com/the-magazine/purchase-individual-issues/.
