Synkroniciti is delighted to welcome back poet Naomi Ruth Lowinsky of California with “Voices of the Wild and the Holy,” a poem that highlights the call of the creative spirit over a lifetime.
“Behold I am transported by the wild mare who gallops/ out of the Paleolithic into my dream She conjures me/ a wild horse girl in the ivy woods outside Princeton/ Give me your word you’ll ride me your steed of imagination/ until I carry you away to the other side// Behold I am the voice of your life still here to transport you/ as I did when I conjured your first poem You were nine“
We see Naomi travel, meeting the same spirit in different places and guises, always entreating her to write, believe and bear witness. This is not only beautiful, but a testament to the sacred wholeness of life and experience. As always, her poetic voice is eloquent and imaginative, the internal spacing revealing her cadence and pauses, giving the reader structure in the absence of punctuation. Repetition and alliterative music conjure a sense of myth which culminates in the mystic mare, a spiritual animal archetype which promises to see her through life, even in the face of the coming storm.

Naomi Ruth Lowinsky’s muse has a habit of wandering between the day world and the dream world, between the world of the living and the world of the dead. Her muse insists that the realm of spirit and the realm of politics speak to one another, that poetry is a musical as well as a mystical form, tells human stories as well as mythological stories–opening the doors to visionary realms. Lowinsky has learned the hard way, that it is essential to listen to her muse.
Lowinsky’s sixth book of poems,Your Face in the Fire, was published recently. She is a member of the C.G. Jung Institute of San Francisco, Poetry Editor for Psychological Perspectives, and blogs about poetry and life at sisterfrombelow.com.
