Look and Listen #9: Xenobia Bailey’s Aesthetic of Funk

Here are two wonderful videos of Xenobia Bailey, a multi-faceted artist influenced by funk and ethnomusicology. Born Sherilyn Bailey in Seattle, she took the name Xenobia to draw on the energy and legend of the warrior Queen of Palmyra (ancient Syria). She sees her work as vibration made visible and a way to work through the labyrinth of herself.  So much creativity and connection here. The first video, from Etsy, focuses on her connection to funk and shows more of her pieces, while the second from the Museum of Art and Design in New York City is more about her journey and connection to her heritage.
