Sofia Ashraf was raised in a conservative Muslim family in south India, but she always loved the stage. Despite coming from a household where musical instruments were banned and nice women did not dance, she always had rhythm in her. Blessed with a cunning sense of humor and great intelligence, she decided to live life on her own terms and moved to Bombay. She works in content creation (advertising), but has found a great following as a rapper, especially following her 2015 rap video Kodaikanal Won’t, which called corporate giant Unilever on the carpet for poisoning a community and the environment with mercury from their thermometer factory.
I admire her energy and bow to the authenticity she reveals every time she takes the stage or gets in front of a camera. From serious issues to comic bits about being female and Muslim, she is fearless.
