Globe-trotting Travel Series #7: Luke Jerram’s SARS CoV-2 Model from Bristol, England

Day 7 of the globe-trotting Travel Series takes us to Bristol, England, where artist Luke Jerram designs models of viruses which are then executed in blown glass. The effort is a collaborative one, as Jerram works with virologists at the University of Bristol and also with a team of glass-blowers who make these lovely models. SARS-CoV-2 is his latest “portrait” and was commissioned by Duke University to aid in their research. Useful and beautiful, this particular model is about 2 million times larger than the average microbe that causes Covid-19.
