Globe-trotting Travel Series #32: Calligraphy Artist Denis Brown, Dublin, Ireland

Day 32 of the Globe-trotting Travel Series features a fantastic multi-layered art project combining poetry, calligraphy, glass etching, film and animation by Denis Brown in Dublin, Ireland. Denis is a cutting edge calligrapher who creates “three-dimensional layered works of art where a thousand words may paint a picture.” He refers to these structures made from etched layers of glass as “transparent books” and often bases them on existing poetry. This particular work, based on a poem called Quarantine by AgapePhileoEros, pays homage to the science of creating a vaccine, which uses parts of the virus replicated and modified, while also invoking the ancient magical art of using words to cast a spell for protection. It’s extraordinary!
