Featured Artist The Sunflower Kam

Synkroniciti is thrilled to welcome Kamille Leak, The Sunflower Kam, as the first Featured Artist of our “Flow” issue.  Kam embodies the essence of the issue: her works are joyful and vibrant and they are also her lifeline to mental health. Working with the creative process helps her find her groove and express herself, especially “when journaling just doesn’t cut it.” We feature a five-page spread including an article about The Sunflower Kam–you’ll appreciate her vulnerability and realness–and “Breathe,” a work of Black female empowerment and serenity based on the Chakra System used in Ayurvedic Medicine. This energetic and colorful acrylic and mixed media painting incorporates the Sanskrit symbols for each of the seven main chakras, or energy sources, of the body into a celebration of Black femininity. It also reminds us that true power lies within us rather than being granted by our circumstances.

Kam’s artwork centers around spirituality, body positivity, and representation of Black people in a way that is quite different than the mainstream media.

See Kam’s vivid and beautiful work and learn about her story in the new issue of Synkroniciti, available online on June 1st. You can subscribe or purchase the issue here: https://synkroniciti.com/the-magazine/. You won’t want to miss this exciting young artist.
