Featured Artist: L.A. Merrill

Synkroniciti is delighted to welcome Houston poet L.A. Merrill with Season of Doves: Not Yet, a beautiful, sculpted reflection on a brood of baby doves growing to adulthood on her porch. The metaphor of baby birds preparing to leave their nest is a powerful one across cultures and L.A. handles it with a simple delicacy that belies care and skill.

If you would like to read L.A.’s uplifting and hopeful poem, please subscribe or purchase the issue here. The issue, our ninth, debuts September 1st with the theme of “birds.”

L.A. Merrill was a juried poet for the 2017 Houston Poetry Fest, and her work appeared in the festival anthology. Her poems have appeared in the Texas Poetry Calendar (2019 and 2020 editions) and the Poetry at Round Top anthology (2018 and 2019 editions). Merrill was a featured reader at the Poetry Fix series in Houston in September 2018. During the pandemic, she has been serving as an emcee for Public Poetry’s virtual library readings. Merrill also won a Rowan Foundation scholarship to the 2021 Boldface Conference for Emerging Writers. The poet’s porch has become popular with local doves. She takes that as a compliment.
