Please join Synkroniciti in welcoming back poet and writer D. R. James. “Empowered” features two of his poems. “Kind of Blue” is a tribute to jazz legend Miles Davis, who used his trumpet and music to empower himself and inspire others. Art, no matter the genre or medium, has such power to dialogue and sometimes to overcome despair and depression, those inner voices that can destroy our lives. “A Theology” gets at the paradox of life, that we don’t truly contemplate eternity until we come face to face with mortality.
Recently retired from nearly 45 years of teaching college writing, literature, and peace studies, D. R. James lives, writes, vegges, and cycles with his psychotherapist wife in the woods near Saugatuck, Michigan.
His latest of ten collections are Mobius Trip and Flip Requiem (Dos Madres Press, 2021, 2020), and his prose and poems have appeared in a wide variety of print and online anthologies and journals.
