Synkroniciti is delighted to welcome back poet Michael J. LaFrancis of Connecticut with a moving ekphrastic poem, “The Kiss,” based on the iconic sculpture of the same name by Auguste Rodin. Michael meditates on how love changes over time.
“We had a dream/ chemistry would bond us for life.// Now we have experience/ common goals shared values/ chisels chip chipping our marble/ baring more and more beauty/ revealing character/ in three dimensions.”
Michael is at his best when expressing human connection. His honesty and earnestness invite us to affirm our best selves, drawing us into his vision without imposing it. The imagery here is tender but not sentimental. By picturing time itself as a sculptor: revealing character, shaping beauty, uncovering depth, he inspires us to see love not as static passion but as a living work of art, continually refined and revealed.
