“Dreams” Featured Artist Sergey Dobrunov

Synkroniciti is honored to welcome back Ukrainian artist Sergey Dobrunov with Dreams of my home. Sergey works in ink and oil on glass, a beautiful and fragile art form that involves time and skill.

“‘I made this work using the old technique of applying ink outline, then oil paint. When it dried, I covered the first layer with gold paint, as they did in the old days. It represents a summer view of my native expanses, with a green meadow, bright colors in the sky and on the ground. When there is a war and anger surrounds, you want to think about the good!”

Living in a war zone takes away the sense of home, as attackers destroy land and life. And yet the invader can never quite stamp out life and the dreams and visions of those who persist become distilled and powerful. To make art in such circumstances is an act of hope and resistance. Dreams of my home shows the peaceful, idyllic beauty of rural Ukraine in the summer and expresses a longing for the days when life can resume without the fear of soldiers, drones, bombs and bullets. We hope for those days to come soon. Is there any dream greater than the desire for a happy, safe, and prosperous home?

Synkroniciti is proud to include three Ukrainian artists in this issue and to share their dream of home.
