“Identity” Featured Artists Christopher and Taliesin Peys

Synkroniciti is thrilled to welcome the collaborative poetry duo of Christopher and Taliesin Peys from Los Angeles. Christopher transcribes conversations between himself and his three-year-old son, Taliesin, into delightful and wonder-filled prose poems. Together they explore everyday things with a freshness and openness that inspires us to see the world differently. “Becoming a Watermelon” explores the mystery of growth “As I get older, I’m going to change. And what do you think you will become? A watermelon with lots of seeds.” At first Taliesin’s broad leaps seem fanciful, but there is a great deal of wisdom and insight there that we adults have forgotten. “Raining Flamingos” is about rain and the invisible world: “Plants and flowers need lots of water to grow more easily. I think it’s beautiful. Rain comes from the heavens. The heavens are right there. It’s raining so hard, like flamingos. Did you know, in France, when it rains really hard they say, “il pleut des cordes”…? It’s raining ropes.” Finally, “dance like a raccoon” is about the joy of living and how it makes us want to dance. “My toes are happy to dance! So is my heart. I heard your heart with my medical kit, Daddy. It sounds like a squirrel lives in your chest.” If you can read these poems without smiling, you need to check your pulse. These poems provide an antidote to our everyday stresses and remind us to listen to children to remember how to play.
